Abstract

This musical piece was composed for a video created by Professor Jeff Crawford. Using digital synthesizer plugins found in Logic Pro X, the work follows the movements and changes of computer-generated patterns in the video. The soundscape primarily consists of a collection of haunting, ambient, and rich timbres, but there are also samples derived from the second movement "Fêtes" of Debussy's Nocturnes. Furthermore, the bell-like instrument introduced at the beginning of the piece was synthesized to resemble the shimmering timbre of gongs used in Javanese court gamelan. In order to induce a free and human-like feel to the tempo, all parts were recorded without quantization.
