About This Journal
Backstage Pass is an annual music industry news and information publication created and edited by students at the University of Pacific preparing for careers in the music business. Written communication in all forms is prized throughout the entertainment industry, whether the piece is an opinion article published in a trade publication or a succinct memorandum of understanding detailing the particulars of a performance agreement.
Each issue will include three editorial sections:
- Concert/Album Reviews
- Industry News & Analysis
- Industry Profiles
While all Pacific students with an interest in the music and entertainment industry may submit an article to Backstage Pass, most contributors are pursuing a degree in the Conservatory of Music’s Music Management or Music Industry Studies program or the Business School’s Arts & Entertainment concentration.
Pacific’s Music Management program was one of the first in the West, launching in 1982. Since that time, graduates of the program have distinguished themselves in a wide range of music and entertainment endeavors nationally and internationally. Today, the programs affiliated with the study of Music Management are noted for their small class sizes, emphasis of hands-on learning and a diverse program faculty which is made up of dedicated instructors who each bring significant and ongoing music industry experience to the classroom, recording studio, and Pacific’s own student-led record label, Pac Ave Records. Another hallmark of the program is the close relationship with industry leaders who help guide the program through an active Music Management Advisory Board.
