Abstract/Artist Statement

University of the Pacific Scholar Rodolfo Buenrostro and Professional Teaching Artist Maro Bello present a Ted Talk presentation on the music Guitar program at Fillmore Elementary afterschool program, created in collaboration with San Joaquin County non profit "El Concilio". Rodolfo served as a College Corp Intern assisting in the creation and implementation of the music program. They give a brief performance, discuss their background in music, and community involvement. The successful fulfillment of El Concilios needs were met, as it was their first year hosting the after school programs in the SUSD. Both Rodolfo and Maro discuss the overuse of the guitars and purchasing of instruments, the process behind preparation, and eventually the red tape process of Rodolfo getting denied the liberty to work on the school campus site. Lastly, the expansion of the program to Fremont elementary (a sister school nearby) was successful with the push of El Concilio and the speech ends with recommendations for the future to remain stable.
