Abstract/Artist Statement
As a part of the University of the Pacific’s College Corps, a group focusing on spreading awareness on mental health, decided to create a project to do just that. They wanted to not only spread awareness on mental health but also on the resources available for the community. This was inspired by their realization of how often people dismiss the idea of using mental health resources that are available to them. After reviewing survey data recently taken at the University of the Pacific, many people stated that, although they are aware of the mental health resources available to them, they have never used them. Some people stated not even knowing what resources were available to them. Based on this, the group decided to reach out to the community by creating posts to spread awareness on the different types of struggles people might face, as well as inform them about the different resources available to them. They hope to encourage people to use these resources by educating them on what mental health is. For example, they created posts on anger management, anxiety, and depression. Hopefully, when people become aware of what the symptoms of different mental health problems are, they can feel encouraged to seek help and take advantage of the resources available to them. They will accomplish this by reaching many people through social media by posting every week of April, and studying the post interactions to gain insight on how many people they can reach, as well as how to improve community outreach.
