1462 N. Spaulding Ave.,Chicago, Jan. 12, 1909.Dear Uncle John; Mother has just written me enclosing your Christmas gift, for which I send thanks. It is very kind of yon to remember us all - such a lot of us. Mother writes that you have recently returned from a visit with Helen, but says you did not mention how she was, "but that from previous reports, she was getting along very nicely, which we are very glad to hear. I expect Helen will he glad to be able to get back to the Valley. I have had a rather serious time the past year with inflammatory and articular rheumatism, which has settled mostly in my hands and wrists, and have often contemplated going to the desert for a while, to see what that would do for me. Writing is a very painful luxury, not often indulged in.We sold our home last fall, and Dr. and I are having quite a time deciding upon a now place to build. Away out in the suburbs, where we would like to live, transportation is none too good, while we don't want to live where it is crowded. We will be most happy when settled again. We have had a most delightful fall and winter - cool, crisp and sunshiny days, but we have missed the snow, for there has been very little so far.Remember me kindly to all the good folk in the Valley, and accept our belated wishes for a happy New Year. Very, sincerely, Grace Galloway Paulin.
