[letterhead]Jany 11, 1909My dear Mr Muir-I have been quite ill for the past week- caught a bad cold which settled in my bronchial tubes, and threatened the left lung, that was involved in the pneumonia attack of two winters ago. By careful nursing and a sensible doctor - (Sherry) I feel that I have warded off an attack of pneumonia, tho' I shall have to be very careful for several days yet.I learned that Prof James was expected down last week, so urged upon Mr Vroman to be sure to see him & carry out the plan I had suggested. [illegible] that I was urging upon you the immediate necessity of your writing your autobiography. So that [end?] it was necessary to get at the details of your life, that were covered by your letters to Mrs Carr. That you were very friendly to James and only desired copies of those letters &c & etc-Vroman reports to me by phone this morning that he had a long [conference?] with James on those lines, and found him very desirous of getting into your good graces. He has promised all we can ask, and I have04401 requested Vroman to at once [illegible] a full report to you of his interview with James, and what he [offers?] He has promised to do so at once- Now you had better come down at once & meet James in the same spirit of friendliness that he proposes to meet you with, and I am sure you will be able to get all that you can desire in the matter. As to how that will be best to accomplish, we can determine after you get here, or after you receive Mr Vroman's report. It will take sometime to thoroughly do this work and it may take longer than he or you can spend here, in that case I have no doubt but that you can arrange to do the heavy work of reading and copying at your house, if found more convenient for you both. The first and most important thing to establish is the "entente cordiale" between you two, and I feel that then we will easily & fully acomplish our full desires in the matter.Sincerely yoursA H Sellers
