ARNOLD ARBORETUM, HARVARD UNIVERSITY.

Jamaica Plain, Mass., April 23, 1906.

My dear Muir:

I am safely back and want to hear that you and your daughters are well, although I can well understand that every one living in California must be greatly broken in spirit just now. The loss of the Academy is certainly a very serious one for California science. Do you know anything about Miss Eastwood? I do not write her as I do not suppose letters can be delivered in San Francisco. If you happen to know about her I wish you would write me. Her heart must be nearly broken over the loss of her beloved plants.
As soon as I hear that you are well I will write and tell you something of my journey which is the most interesting one I have ever made.
Yours faithfully,

C. S. Sargent
