Dear Mr. Muir
I only received your letter of 19[th.?] Febry. from Adamana & was sorry to hear about Helen but hope she is keeping much better now & gaining strength- I hope your other daughter Wanda who lives much in San Francisco was not there during these frightful days of earthquake & fire & shall be glad to hear she is safe - Also that your property and relations in your valley near Martinez are all safe - a post card on receipt of this will do. I am not very well at present which accounts for this scrawl but cannot resist writing to you by today's mail so please excuse [more?] at present from yours sincerely
James Murdoch
P.S. I send with this a Newspaper with an account by Hall Caine of the recent eruption of Vesuvius.
