Mr JE Stubbs Univ of Nevada
Reno, Nev
My dear Sir,
On my last trip with [to] the Sierra Club [high] Sierra it was delightful to meet bright and merry bands of mtneers [mountaineers] in my old haunts in the high Sierra. When so long I had wandered solitary. Prof Martin I remember well as on of the most eager [questioners] And no doubt his lectures are now colored [&] [ ] with mountain lore [books the wealth of the mts].
For yr [your] kind [& flat] invitation to the Univ [University] of Nevada I heartily thank you & should fortune lead me to Reno. I’ll [be glad to see you & will] accept it gladly [as soon as fortune [allows] will let me]
With best wish
Faithfully yours
JM
I had a good [time this summer] with Dr M [Merriam] and his sister Ms [Bayley] & [Mr B] her husband in the Sierra on the head-waters of the Truckee, Carson, Mokelumne, Stanislaus. Tuol [Tuolumne], & Merced descending to the lowlands & hard work by way of Yo[semite].
Charlie Keeler has just got out a new book of [poems].
When are you coming west again? When you do come to my house & make it your headquarters.
Yours,
JM
