The sea far out is green with mud particles 20th Yakut a few houses in a row in side bay at mouth of main bay. Ran out, & up the main bay on west side & put off hunting parties on the Malspina [Malaspina] Gl[acier] for bears - also ornithologists etc. Left small party at Yak. These landings took till 4 P.M. Meanwhile as Gilbert, Gannet[t] Kearney & I [Sketch: Yakutat Gl. 20 ms from entrance to Yak[utat] B[ay] 4 to 5 ms wide] Willow on moraine over ice in bloom June 20 Beautiful, as a flr with petals stems red flushed on side exposed The other green like apple. Anthers bright red purp filaments pale purple. scales red, black on margin East end of Hub[bard] Gl. wall on mor[aine]. Making fine show. Gulls nests of epilobium stalks on mor[aine]. Plaintive cries. Babies out of nest Nursery lullabys of falling berg thunder The calm of nat with the stormy The silent with loud noise Fertile catkins of willow yel[low] green Largest species catkins 4 to 6 inches long. stand erect waited to be taken up the bay as far as possible Mt St. Elias was gradually clearing itself first the left hand pk[peak] then the main [Sketch: Two peaks of Mt.
