Los Angeles Sunday May 29, 1910—Dear Mrs Hooker & MarianOnly two at the big table last night & this morning, for Mr Fred & Mrs Hark-the-lark Jones have flown away on a night & day visit leaving us in loneliness next thing to absolute. Nevertheless we try to look philosophic & brave, talk big about the spacious heavens & earth, & call the compensating stars & mountains & vasty deep about us to mend the narrowness of the family circle, if one or even two can be called a circle. But in sober everyday sublunary subcomety reality you are awfully missed at West Adams.I was glad to get your reassuring Tamalpais letter, & through Ellie to hear of the triumphant victory at the Greek theater. None dear Marian who in the least knew you ever for a moment
