[letterhead]September 25, 1896My dear babies Wanda & HelenI wish you could have seen the fine shaggy wild mountains & woods I saw yesterday & the grand scenery above a white rolling sea of fog, but I would have been awfully afraid the carriage would have fallen over the steep rocks along the fronts of which the road was cut. There is a very handsome gray squirrel in the hotel here here in a big cage, they let him out every morning to scamper about the office & he is then just too handsome & ridiculously funny for anything. I wonder what sober gentlemanly Tom would think of him, I must try to get one for you when we get the new dog then we will be all rightEver Your loving & admiring father[marginalia]02156
