William and Maymie Kimes Annotation

On February 28, 1902, Muir wrote to Mr. George W. Stewart, President of Mount Whitney Club, saying: ""I heartily sympathize with you in your efforts to clear up confusion of names in the Sierra. Though one of the first to explore the wilds of the high Sierra, the only name in your region that I am responsible for is the 'Giant Forest of the Kaweah' named some 27 years ago. But lately some of the members of our club have been sowing names thick and and fast too often without due regard to names long locally in use."" Muir concludes with several suggestions for solving the problem (Letter, CU-B).
