Introduction/Context/Diagnosis

This is a clinical case demonstrating concurrent improvements in oral and systemic health. A comprehensive dental treatment plan was developed and modified with consideration for the patient's changing health status and goals.

Methods/Treatment Plan

The patient's oral health concerns and goals were established before the development of a multidisciplinary treatment plan. The treatment approach began with preventive and periodontal dental care to treat periodontal disease and caries. Tooth extractions were performed to favor a long-term treatment outlook. Direct and indirect restorative procedures in combination with removable partial dentures addressed restorative needs. Throughout dental treatment, consistent follow up conversations regarding medical health monitored overall health changes.

Results/Outcome

Stabilizing periodontal disease and caries preceded restorative treatment to restore the dentition for esthetics and function. The dental care treated the patient's dental concerns for oral health with simultaneous changes in general health.

Significance/Conclusions

Desire to improve oral health and general health may successfully be used in combination for positive outcomes in overall health, especially for a motivated patient.
