Philosophy of Euleriana
For more information, please see Euleriana Aims and Scope page.
Who Can Submit?
Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Euleriana provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).
General Submission Rules
Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Euleriana, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Euleriana. If you have concerns about the submission terms for Euleriana, please contact the editors.
AI Policy for Authors
Generative AI technologies (including Large Language Models such as ChatGPT) are powerful tools that can greatly streamline the preparation process for a scholarly manuscript. To ensure that these technologies are employed responsibly, Euleriana places the following restrictions on their use.
- Authors must disclose in their submission whether generative AI technologies were used in the writing or translation process.
- Any use of generative AI in this process should only be used to improve readability (e.g., by correcting spelling errors, addressing grammatical issues, and similar general editing steps) and not to generate scholarly results, citations, or interpretations.
- For translations, any use of generative AI must be accompanied by a thorough review and revision of the output by the translator. Any commentary accompanying the translation must also follow the policy described here.
- AI technologies should not be listed or cited as an author or co-author in any manuscript.
- It is the responsibility of each author to carefully review and edit the resulting output, to ensure that the submitted work is original, provide appropriate context and explanation in translations, verify the output’s accuracy, and ensure that others’ work is properly cited.
- The editors of Euleriana reserve the right to reject any submitted manuscript if they deem it to have violated this policy. The editors further reserve the right to retract a published article or issue an editorial notice if they deem it to have violated this policy.
- This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted on or after September 15, 2025. Additionally, the editors of Euleriana reserve the right to issue an editorial notice for any past publication if they deem it to have violated this policy.
AI Policy for Reviewers
Reviewers may rely on generative AI tools in preparing their report, provided their use is limited to improving the quality of written feedback originating with the reviewer (and not used to generate feedback). Further, all reviewers are prohibited from uploading manuscripts into AI tools, since this violates the intellectual property rights of the author(s).
Formatting Requirements
Euleriana has no general rules about the formatting of articles upon initial submission. The editors do recommend and encourage submission of the full text to be made from a LaTeX document converted to PDF.
It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.
Rights for Authors and Scholarly Commons
As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), in consideration for publication of the article, the authors assign to Scholarly Commons all copyright in the article, subject to the expansive personal--use exceptions described below or by their self-selection of a Creative Commons License during the submission process.
Attribution and Usage Policies
Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the article or any material therein, in any medium as permitted by a personal-use exemption or by written agreement of Scholarly Commons, requires credit to Scholarly Commons as copyright holder (e.g., Scholarly Commons © 2025).
Personal-use Exceptions
Authors do have the option to select a Creative Commons License for their articles upon submission. If a CC License is chosen, its rules supersede all of the below.
The following uses are always permitted to the author(s) and do not require further permission from Scholarly Commons provided the author does not alter the format or content of the articles, including the copyright notification:
- Storage and back-up of the article on the author's computer(s) and digital media (e.g., diskettes, back-up servers, Zip disks, etc.), provided that the article stored on these computers and media is not readily accessible by persons other than the author(s);
- Posting of the article on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non-commercial;
- Posting of the article on the internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)'s place of employment (e.g., a Phrenology professor at the University of Southern North Dakota can have her article appear in the University of Southern North Dakota's Department of Phrenology online publication series); and
- Posting of the article on a non-commercial course website for a course being taught by the author at the university or college employing the author.
People seeking an exception, or who have questions about use, should contact the editors.
