Description

Breakout sessions drawing on reported real life situations that demonstrate bias issues. Facilitators will review/watch, then discuss/unpack what happened with small groups of students and why such instances demonstrated bias.

Speaker Bio(s)

Hector Escalante is the University of the Pacific’s inaugural Ombudsperson. He comes from both a management and academic background. Escalante holds a Doctor of Education and a Master of Fine Arts in creative non-fiction writing. He is a Marine Corps veteran and served as a college professor for many years before transitioning into academic administration. He has been a provost, dean and director of academic units. Escalante is a trained mediator, DISC profile facilitator, and a conflict resolution professional. As the University of the Pacific Ombuds, he works with individuals and groups in an organization to explore and assist them in determining options to help resolve conflicts. Escalante is also one of two ombuds for Earthjustice, a non-profit public interest environmental law organization.

Margaret Roberts brings 20+ years of combined experience in career management, talent acquisition, and resume writing expertise as Director of the Eberhardt Career Management Center. At the Eberhardt School, Roberts is integral to all aspects of student career development and readiness as the primary instructor for required career courses. She engages local, regional and global employers to facilitate internship and career opportunities, and brokers introductions between students, alumni and industry professionals. Prior to joining Pacific in 2002, she was a recruiter and business development professional in the recruiting and venture capital industries. As a freelance resume writer, she has personally authored more than 500 industry professional and executive resumes. Roberts holds an MA in education from University of the Pacific and a BA in Anthropology from UCSB. Roberts is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education through Pacific’s Benerd College.

Chris Sablynski, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Management in the Eberhardt School of Business. Chris received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Washington where he was awarded the distinguished Ph.D. Program Teaching Award. Since arriving at Pacific, he has received 10 additional teaching and mentoring awards. Chris has taught a variety of leadership and management courses at the MBA and undergraduate levels including Leadership & Change, Management & Organizational Behavior, Conflict Management, and Human Resource Management. Dr. Sablynski has published 19 peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters. His research has been featured in The Economist, Time Magazine, NPR, Sacramento Bee, and The Sacramento Business Journal. Prior to teaching, Chris was employed by or contracted with organizations such as Microsoft, The Hay Group, Chase, and Dun & Bradstreet. Chris loves teaching and is always looking for ways to help his students!

Mario Enríquez, Ph.D., currently serves as the Director of Domestic Programs for the LGBTQ Victory Institute, a national organization committed to increasing the number of LGBTQ people in public office at every level of government. In this role, he oversees their numerous leadership programs including candidate & campaign trainings, a fellowship for people of color and/or transgender people to prepare for elected office, and a congressional internship program for LGBTQ undergraduates. For the past decade, Mario has had the opportunity to serve as a national speaker, facilitator, and workshop presenter to college campuses across the country. Mario previously worked at UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization and is an alumnus of the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). Mario received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Pacific and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.

Jennifer Musselman, MFT, merges her license as a psychotherapist with her Fortune 500 executive experience to transform individuals, cultures, and leadership at The Musselman Institute for Leadership Insight and Marriage Therapy, PC. She is a former Entertainment Public Relations Executive for MTV Networks' Kids and Family Entertainment and interim CEO for beGlammed (merged with Priv), an on-demand hair and makeup company. She holds a Masters degree from Pepperdine in Clinical Psychology and is completing her Doctorate at USC in Change Management and Leadership. Her business focuses on inspiring psychological wellness, inclusivity and play to create harmony, alignment and equity for people and brands in the entertainment, technology, venture capital and healthcare industries. She is licensed by the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) and believes in inspiring movement through science, connection and emotional intelligence.
