Abstract
The writing center frontier often exists at an institutional crossroads—caught between playing a numbers game to justify continued funding from university administration and creating safe “third spaces” on campus. How can programs ethically satisfy both demands? This presentation will describe the exponential growth of the Writing Center at the University of the Pacific. Those who attend this session will emerge with a rich sense of the multilayered components that allowed us to “do well” (i.e., increase our usage numbers) while “doing good” (i.e., remaining true to our mission).
