Abstract
The primary objective of this workshop was to promote mental health awareness and encourage the development of positive peer relationships among high school students participating in the Improve Your Tomorrow program at Cesar Chavez High School. The workshop was designed to address the unique challenges young men face, including academic pressure, family responsibilities, social expectations, and the tendency to internalize stress rather than seek support.
Throughout the workshop, students engaged in guided discussions and interactive activities that encouraged self-reflection and open dialogue. Key topics included stress management, emotional awareness, and the impact of peer interactions on individual well-being. Attention was given to how behaviors often perceived as harmless, such as joking or teasing, can negatively affect others by contributing to increased stress, reduced self-esteem, and feelings of isolation. Students were encouraged to critically examine their own actions and consider how they contribute to the overall environment within their peer groups.
In addition, the workshop emphasized the importance of building a supportive and respectful community rooted in accountability and mutual respect. Students participated in activities that promoted positive communication and the practice of uplifting one another. The workshop also provided information on available school and community mental health resources to ensure students are aware of where to seek support when needed. Overall, the goal of this workshop was to equip students with practical strategies for managing stress, strengthening peer connections, and fostering a more positive and supportive school environment.
