Inflammasome Activation by Fusobacterium nucleatum
Introduction/Abstract
F. nucleatum has been identified in high frequencies for adults afflicted with mild to acute periodontitis— infection and inflammation of the gums. Previous studies have focused on virulence factors produced by F. nucleatum, but early recognition of the pathogen by the immune system remains poorly understood. To understand how to prevent periodontitis progression, we will study the early survival mechanism of F. nucleatum in the host.
