Abstract/Artist Statement

The purpose of this fellowship project is to encourage the younger generation to pursue a career through higher education, preferably in the STEM/science field. Because the brain has the capacity to retain and memorize information at a younger age, kids are more likely to be influenced at a younger age by external stimuli. Therefore, introducing the kids to the world of STEM and science through kid-friendly science experiments will help guide them towards higher education in early adulthood.

The fellowship project will be carried out at the Jose M. Hernandez Academy, which is a charter school connected to El Concilio California, with the targeted audience being the after-school kids. Materials needed for the science experiments will be provided by El Concilio. The kids will be split into multiple groups in the cafeteria and outside in the playground, with students working together as a group to stimulate the teamwork mindset.
