Abstract/Artist Statement

Constructed in 1976, Fire Station No.39 provides firefighting and emergency services to an area of approximately 1600 acres, representing about one-fifth of the response area in the City of Fairfield. Currently, the building fails to meet basic needs, resulting in a temporary structure being placed behind the station. This quarter serves as the crew’s main living and operation building, while Fire Station No. 39 is being used for storage. To address future residential expansion and growing wildfire concerns, the City of Fairfield has proposed renovating and relocating the current fire station. This project seeks to improve the quality of life for the crew and enhance the fire station’s capacity to provide fire-fighting services for the community.

In this project, we aim to relocate and renovate the existing fire station with a new location and an expanded building. The new building is 8000 square feet and accommodates the housing and leisure of the crew living there while promoting outdoor activities. Multiple low-impact and sustainable measures are incorporated to reduce the overall effect that the building and its construction has on the surrounding environment. Implementing ENVISION and LEED standards throughout the design ensures the building sustainably serves its purpose for many years. Furthermore, as part of the site design, we designated space for expansion in the northern part of the site. Upgrading and improving the resources of the current fire station will allow Fire Station No. 39 to serve the community safely and effectively.
