Abstract/Artist Statement

As a graphic designer, one of my goals is to make touchy or intimidating topics more easily consumable for the audience. I often try to do this through colorful and playful illustrations and eye-catching, yet legible typography to communicate an overall impactful message. This project is an example of that.

This poster series was for a campaign advertising a fictional feminine care company named Bestie. They were designed to cater to young girls who are new to the experience of menstruation and feel like it’s a burden. Menstruation, AKA, one’s period, can make people insecure, uncomfortable, and feel like a weight is holding them back. To combat those feelings, Bestie released high-quality, reliable pads that ensure a leak-free, worry-free experience and allow the user to live out even their most exciting and grand moments rather than putting them on hold.

I wanted to emphasize the sanitary pads’ reliable qualities with the use of a metaphorical slogan, “Don’t let a period end your exclamatory moment.” This slogan plays on the punctuational functions of the “period” and “exclamation point” to uniquely express the product’s reliability. I paired this slogan with colorful, loose, and playful graphics with hopes that the combination would make period feel less intimidating and buying the products needed for it a bit more exciting.
