New York, June 23, 1893.
Dear Louie:
I received your letter of June 15 yesterday. Also Wanda's and the telegram telling Helen was well, which more than anything else did me good. I am very glad to hear that all goes fairly well, particularly that you and grandma are getting better.
As to your joining me at N.Y. I fear the excitement of so much travel, change of food, and above all the wearing, exhausting nerve excitement of going through the huge fair will be far beyond Helen's strength, We should begin, I think, with very much shorter and simpler trips. I can't think what the $93.bill of the Club was for. There must, I think, have been an assessment. I sail tomorrow P.M. and am getting ready. Spent last evening and night at Mr. Buel's place 15 miles from here on Long Island Sound,-a beautiful place, interesting family. Had a boatride on the Sound. All very pleasant. I dine again with Johnson this, the last Hew York evening. On account of his untiring and uncommon kindness I sent him the following, part of which I think I sent you before. Mr. Johnson will probably write you after I leave, and you must write your thanks, of course, which you may well do, since he is your friend as well as mine. Indeed I have been received like a king by everybody.
