My Dear Sir-

I received you very kind letter after you had left. Otherwise I should have [illegible] at once. I suppose you will shortly be in Brooklyn & I [illegible] [illegible] I sincerely thank you for your kind [expression?] concerning the [illegible] I sent you and especially for the suggestion concerning a popular work on Evol'n. I have often thought of this & will now still more seriously. If I did undertake it it would consist of 3 parts--1 What is Evol'n in its wide and its narrow sense--2 What are the evidences of its truth--3--What are its bearings on Christian beliefs The only difficulty is the [illegible] of the [illegible] & the pressure of other duties. I am now engaged on a school [textbook?] of Geology in which of course Evol'n will appear all through, but not [illegible]
