Department of the Interior Washington October 10, 1890. Mr. John Muir, Martinez, California. Sir:-By recent Resolution of the Senate it is made my duty to investigate alleged spoliations in the Yosemite Park and “Big Tree Grove” in Mariposa County, California. I am told that you have information on the subject. I shall be greatly obliged if you will at an early day give me a full statement of the condition of these two reservations and of such spoliations of the same as you may have observed.
