Here's a Happy New Year to you and yours.
We want very much to print your article on "The Discovery of Glacier Bay" in "The Century" for May, and I hope that you will therefore go very carefully over your article and put it in its most effective shape^as well as add a general description of the Muir Glacier, and after that is done I hope you will lay your plans for a book on The Glaciers of Alaska to follow "The Mountains of California" to be published by The Century Co., if you are willing. But in order to print your article in the May number. we ought to have the text here by the 25th of February. I have a special reason for wanting this article to be the best thing that you have written. Our records show that "The Discovery of Glacier Bay" was returned to you on the 5th of December, and the Alaska Trip was returned on the 19th. I hope you have received the latter* as well as the former.
Sargent, Pinchot, Stiles and I are moving-for the appointment of a forest commission to look over the whole field and recommend a permanent policy, and the plan is to agitate
