Dear Mr. Muir,
Let me thank you first of all for your cordial reply to my letter. It was a pleasure to have something bring a word from you. How I wish you could come to San Jose, with the wife and babies we (I at least) have never seen!
We have finally settled down to the conclusion that is is better to pay Jessie Norton's expenses for one term only, and try to get work for her after that. So if she chooses to come back to finish the course here, she may be able to pay her own way after a while. This is the wish of the family, as well as her own.
This makes the sum to be raised not large. The helpers are paying from five to ten dollars, as they feel able; no one more than ten. Jessie has been in school for a month, and is doing well.

Thank you for your invitation to see you in your own home. Sometimes I hope I may have the pleasure, though I seldom make such trips away.
Yours very sincerely,
Helen S. Wright.
