Waitsfield Vt. Aug 10, 1914.Mr. John Muir,My dear Mr. Muir:I find it hard to express the pleasure your letter and the copies of Stickeen gave me. Although the little book has become one of my treasures, I was even more pleased for the copy that came to "Cosey", for I realized it would mean so much to her. I knew only the author,05814

while she knew the man, and from her I have heard many happy recollections of John Muir and Yosemite.Since I read Stickeen, it seems to me I, too, know the man who wrote it. It required a big, splendid courage to brave the dangers of that glacier and it was a big, fatherly heart that took in little Stickeen, and cheered him over the dreadful crevasse.I am glad to shake hands with you, Mr. John Muir - even across so many miles, and I thank you sincerely for your letter and Stickeen.Your Green Mountain friend,Florence Boyce Davis
