Rolfs San Francisco, Dec. 2, 1912Mrs. Buel A.Funk,Los Angeles, Cal.Darling Helen:-Here is your share of a check for$1500 which I received from the Telephone Company for right ofway on the Valona Ranch. I received your letter yesterday eveningand very glad to know that the family is prospering. Bevery careful of yourself and guard against colds these foggydays in sunny Southern California. I will be in Berkeleyat Mr. Parson’s for a week or two longer, in getting my Alaskanotebooks copied.By the way, Tom is negotiating with the Power Company forright of way on the Valona Ranch in addition to the rights thatBuel gave them. He thinks he can get a considerable sum forthese additional rights that are required. He is now in thethick of his negotiations with that Power Co. and it would be wellto have Buel refer the Company to Tom Hanna in case they try toget better terms from Buel. Tom's opinion is that we ought toget something like $1000 for the additional right of way. Your devoted father,John Muir
