THE SECRETARY OF THE INTERIORWASHINGTONMay 29, 1912.Dear Sir:It has been found necessary to grant the city of San Francisco a further extension of time within which to present the matters hearing upon the use of the Hetch Hetchy as a reservoir site. The prep-are taken and presentation of the data required from the city of San Francisco by the Board of Army Engineers has been in charge of Mr. Marsden Manson, the San Francisco city engineer, Mr. Manson has unexpectedly broken down in health to such an extent that his physician has ordered him to stop work. As a result it has been necessary for the city to employ other engineers. The entire situation was taken up at a conference here last week, and the result of that conference is embodied in a letter which I wrote to the Major of San Francisco on May 29, 1912, of which I enclose a copy. The arrangement proposed will give the city the necessary time in which to present its material, and will also afford the objectors ample time and opportunity in which to examine and to answer whatever is presented on behalf of the city. I believe that under the conditions now existing it will enable us to have a final hearing and determination of this matter as promptly as possible with duo consideration to all of the important interests involved.Very truly yours.[illegible]SecretaryProf. William E.
