To John Muir. On Reading: The Snow Banners Of The Sierra'sMuir: I stand with thee as one in trance. Upon these mountain heighths the heart finds rest Like you lone eagle's on that meet ling crest, Whose kingly vision sweeps the vast expanse. Here, praise long silent, finds an utterance.Chill as the snow that caps yon mountain brow Is man in concourse with his God-save nowWhen soul finds language in omnipotence. Look: Poet! - Friend! - a miracle of graceIs here interpreted in Nature's form And speaks the dread Apocalypse of God. Oh! Love Divine; that recks not time nor place; Thou flingest abroad these banners of the storm To blaze the path the Mighty Maker trod.March 27th. 1912. Hilo. T. H.05164
