My Dear Friend;
Your consolatory(?) letter dated Feb. 22. 1881. came safely by this str. There has been at least one of your letters miscarried as you say sent [one?] acknowledging the receipt of the box. That did not come to hand. I am afraid Hughes left you to pay the freight. I directed him to prepay & hand me the bill. I don’t want to treat you as some of our brethren have treated us – sending boxes of old worn out clothing & shoes &c worth a dollar or two to the Homes & left us to pay five or six dollars freight on them. My bones are [sound?] now & my bruises & [strains?] all healed.

though I had another dist[illegible]tion since I wrote. The mission was never more prosperous than now. The [regulars?] have all some back repentant. Capt. Gloss has helped us nobly, put [down] liquor trade, & [illegible] white & Indian into peace & order. I might happen to drop in upon you next month. I start down to Forest Grove Oregon in about three weeks in charge of ten Indian children which I shall leave in the Gov’t training school. Shall remain over [on str.?] I shall take Mrs. Y. & the babies along. It is hardly probably that I shall go to Cal. but if I do I shall give you a call. Address me care of Rev. A.[Y. Lendsley?] D.D. Portland Or. I have no time to write further now. Mrs [R.?] sends kindest regards. Congratulations for [new honors & sympathy in new cares.?]
Youthfully [S Hall Young.?]
