Martinez, Dec. 28, 1908Dear Mr Calkins:The fight for Hetch Hetchy Valley & the Yosemite Park in general is on again, & I am sending you with this a few copies of a circular letter the Sierra Club is mailing to the members, urging the sending to Congressmen protests against the City schemes. Your coming so bravely & effectively to our help in the first battle I am anxious to have you with us again. I think we must win, for civilization seldom takes so great a step backward even in these triumphant dollar-laden commercial days. With kindest regards to Mrs Calkins & your son & wishing you all a good New Year, I amever faithfully yours John MuirHope the frost has not injured your young hopeful trees09206
