Daggett, Calif. Dec. 11th '08Dear Papa -I was so glad to get your good cheery letter yesterday, letting me know all was well with you. And Im so proud of the Dedication - its beautiful. I had just been thinking about the Stickeen book and wondering who it was to be dedicated to, as I hadnt heard anything more about it since you spoke to me about it the last time you were here. And now here comes the proof sheet, with my name. It makes me so happy and proud.043382Today is sunny and fine, like most of the Desert days. There is a sharp frost every night so that [many?] blankets feel pretty good, but it is a good healthy cold, that gives one a splendid appetite. I now weight 140 lbs, good and strong. I havent any cold - feel grand, and as far as I know there are no colds or Grippes in Daggett. I have some new woolens so dress warmly.Mrs Hanna and Walter came Monday afternoon and staid till Wednesday night. I got rooms in town for them so we were not bothered043383fixing rooms for them here. Buel and I drove them around the country, and tried to amuse them. There was no business talk at all, and everything was amiable. My old Stickeen is standing the winter better than he has for years, He follows the baby around and is a good playmate for her. My horse is splendid - is a perfect beast for this country and I enjoy my rides so. All are well here. Both good families ask for you and send kindest regards. And Im alwayslovingly yours Helen04338
