Martinez, August 30, 1910Dear Mrs Osborn,To join you at lovely Lake McDonald would be according to my own heart. I spent a charming week there & at Avalanche Lake some fifteen years ago. But the illness & death of my sister Margaret, & many tasks & duties that have gathered about me will prevent me joining you in your Montana outing & also I fear will block the way to the Hudson this fall, a visit to which I have been looking eagerly forward. It will go hard indeed with me however if I fail to be with [you] next summer or fall, after the Hetch Hetchy question is decidedWith warmest regardsFaithfully your friend John Muir04864
