Dear Sir,
My delay in returning the paper on John Muir is owing to two causes. On his return from Alaska, Mr. Muir was so busy with his “grape crop” that for three months he could find no time to give me the “bibliography” and other detail necessary to fill out the article. Then owing to a political [illegible] incident to election to the office of City Superintendant the completion of the paper was delayed.

As it stands now. Mr. Muir is fully satisfied You can depend upon the facts as correct. Muirs [friends?] to whom I have submitted the article are pleased with it. If the bibliography is too full you can condense it, as for instance, the newspaper letters. Anything you choose to add will be satisfactory to me.
Yours truly
John Swett.
