My dear Mr. Page;

Many thanks for your kind and stirring letter. If I could get writing done as you can, you would soon see a dozen or so of my new books. Your literary work goes forward with admirable steadiness and sustained strength, mine try as I may, goes slow as a glacier and with none of it's steadiness, as if the whole scribbling business were against God's will.
I am now trying to write a revew of Sargent's Silva for the Atlantic, and a little book on the Yosemite Valley and other valleys of the same kind, which will keep me busy all winter.
The thought of your coming to California is delightful, and when you do you will of course come to my house.
What a magnificent magazine you have made the World's Work, the last number is perfectly superb. I heartily congratulate you and am Sincerely Yours
