Mr. Charles Webb Howard,
Dear Sir:
No one of the members of the S[ierra] Club,do far as I know, is able to give instruction on scientific forestry. Certainly I am not, though we [are] all interested in a general way in seeing forest harvests reaped in such ways that the forests shall last forever.
I shall with much pleasure call the attention of the Club to your kind and hopeful request.
Very truly yours,
J. M.
