My dear Dr. Merriam,
Many thanks for the two fine lots of photographs. Hew well most of them have come out. The trees especially. They will be very useful to me besides bringing forward our fine trip last summer.
Helen is charmed and tickled with the crystals-chips etc. and their funny labels and notes. She will write you in acknowledgment soon.
A few days I sent you a box of prunes. They seemed too small to send so far, but let them go. The men say they should be spread out in case of tendency to mould. I'll try to find some nuts in a day or two.: With best wishes for the New Year to you all, I am ever
Yours
JOHN MUIR
If there is not prunes enough for you and the Bailey family let me know and I'll send another lot. I tried to prepay them but could not.
