Dear Bishop:
The Bearer, Mr John Muir visits Oregon, in pursuit of Scientific investigations. I have taken the liberty of referring him to you, as the one most able to tell him how to get around, and whom to see. I trust you are not wholly unacquainted with Mr. M. His contributions to science have already made him well known, and you have doubtless read his snow Banners, & ascent of Mt Shasta with the delight that I have experienced. Any [ courtesy?] you extend will be gratefully appreciated by Mr M. as also by Yours Respectfully Chas. H. Allen.
