Dr. Congden:
The Bearer of this, Mr John Muir, hardly needs an introduction to Scientists anywhere. He visits Oregon in pursuit of Scientific Knowledge, and I am sure will receive a cordial welcome at your hands, as also, any information or aid you can give him in his work. With delightful recollections of the time I spent with you at the Da[illegible] some six or seven years since. I am, Very T[illegible] Chas. H. Allen.
