To John Muir,

My dear friend,

I have received two very sympathetic and encouraging letters from you as well as the M. S. I did not intend that you should take the trouble to return the M. S. as it is only a copy of what I have. You say that you was sorry when you got to the end of it, I may not be right in my surmise as to what you were sorry for but for fear that it was because there was not more of it, I send you all the printed clippings that I intend to let stand as they are, and also some matter that I intend to add to them which is all that I have in any kind of shape at the present time. I would like to have the clippings returned. The rest I have no use for as I have the M. S. from which it was copied. I am improving in health right along. The mountains that I climb are not very high as they are in the neighborhood of Alum rock-springs to which I go every other day to drink the water and take a bath once in a while. I think that if I keep this up for a month longer I shall be quite restored to health. I have not received any more news from the east but expect another letter from William shortly. With all best wishes I am -

-affectionately yours,

Peter L Trout.
