Dear Mr Millard.
I heartily congratulate you on your Cosmopolitan editorship & hope you may gain the success you deserve. The little article you want I'll try to write though all my work has been sadly interrupted.
June 6th my wife died, & my daughter Helen's health is still far from firm though it is two years since it was broken by pneumonia. We are here for the sake of the dry plateau air. When we may return to the desolate Martinez home I don't know, possibly we may be here all winter, but in any case I'll keep your request in mind, & with best wishes am
