My dear Mr Johnson
Thanks for your good stout hammering article on the vanishing forests.
A noisy dashing clashing wave of reform from New York reached this side of the continent but after a little inefectual smashing it has subsided leaving but little mark.
Our new governor Budd threatened to cut off the greater part of the Yosemite appropriations, & the Commissioners appealed to the Sierra Club for help. We made them promise that they would employ a skilled landscape gardener before we would assist them, but this like the feeble
Texan business will I fear end in little or nothing. The hopeless trouble is that Californians dont care about Yosemite.
I had a pleasant visit the other day from exSenator Conness. He is heartily with us in forest & park affairs & may still be able to help us
Ever cordially yours
John Muir
