Mr.G.D.Smith,
County Surveyor,
Visalia,Tulare Co.,Cal.

Dear Mr.Smith:

The photographs and your kind letter came yesterday, for which I sincerely thank you.I believed you were a regular professional photographer, else I never should have thought of ordering pictures.
We missed you on our Whitney trip.It was glorious. You doubtless enjoyed [it] also, and when next you and your wife come to San Francisco I hope you will come to our house.
Congratulating you, I am, with all best wishes,
Sincerely yours,
[John Muir]
