THE CENTURY CO.
UNION SQUARE, NEW YORK
January 22, 1903.
John Muir, Esq,
Martinez, California.
My dear Mr. Muir:
It was with a feeling of disappointment that I read your letter of the 13th. We must of course await the completion of the manuscript and we shall hope that you may yet see your way to have it ready in time for autumn publication. In the meantime it has occurred to us that possibly the material for some other volume may have accumulated on your hands. If so, I sincerely hope you will let us have an opportunity to consider it. Personally and professionally no author on our list is held in higher regard by this office than yourself, and we want you to feel that The Century Co. is your natural outlet whenever you may have anything to say to the public.
Believe me,
Very sincerely yours,
[illegible]
How about "The Making of a Naturalist" which Mr. Gilder suggested to you! It seems to me that this would make a great book.
