[Original letter returned to Mrs. J. B. MeChesney]

Martinez, July 15, 1898.

My dear Mrs. MeChesney:

It is delightful to get your Yosemite letter so full of the mountain air and old-time happy memories, How George and Alice must have enjoyed the blessed songful waters and the woods and rocks. I've been trying for weeks to write a few articles about them for a little book, and was at work on the Yosemite region when your letter came. I wish I could talk it over with you. Strange how hard it is to get to Oakland. I haven't yet seen the Ben tons since they came home. I made three trips to the Sierra this year for the flowers of Abies magnifica, and found them at last above Deer Park.
I hope to see the Eastern woods in autumn colors this fall about the Great Lakes and Canada and along the Alleghanies. Come up and see us, and bring the Bentons. With kindest regards to Mr. MeChesney and Alice and George, and many pleasant memories, I am,

Cordially yours,

John Muir
