Professor John Muir:
My dear Sir:
Although a stranger to you and to the state of California, I take the liberty of thanking you for the articles from your pen in the Century Magazine, showing the people of this country what priceless treasures of Nature they possess and how ruthlessly they are being
despoiled of them. I have corresponded with Representative Vandever and am glad to know that one of his bills, (setting apart township 18 South, range 30 East) has already passed the House. I have written Senator Aldrich of Rhode Island urging him to use his influence to securing its passage by the Senate at this session. I hope the friends of these measures will not relax any efforts that may be necessary
to secure their enactment at as early a day as possible and I shall be very glad to do what little I can to bring about this result.
Yours very truly
