Yo Semite Valley, July 15th 1872.

Dear Mrs Carr, You announcing Dr Gray is rec'd. I have great longing for Gray whom I feel to be a great progressive unlimited man like Darwin & [illegible] & Tyndall. I will be most glad to meet him. You are [unmeasuriable?] in your kindness to me & you hilm my fate more than all the world beside. I am approaching a kind of f[illegible]ting time in this mountain work & I want very much to see you. All say [underlined: write], but I don't know how or what, & besides I want to see North & South & the midland basins & the sea coast & all the lake basins & the canons. Also the Alps of every country & the continental glaciers of Greenland. before I write the book we have been speaking of & all this will require a dozen yrs or twenty, & money the question is what will I write now etc. I have learned the alphabet of ice & mtn structure here & I think I can read fast in other countries. I would let others write what I have read here but that they

make so damnable a hush of it & Erwin so glorious a unit. - I miss the Moores because they were so cordial & kind to me. Mrs Moore believes in ice & can preach it too. I wish you could bring Whitney & she together & tell me to fight Mrs M made the most sensible visit to our mtns' of all corners I have known. Mr Moore is a man who thinks & he took to this mountain structure like a pointer to Partriges I am glad your Ned is growing strong then we [we?] will yet meet this summer in Yosemite places. Talk to Mrs Moore about Hetch Hetchy etc She knows it all from Hog Ranch to highest Sea name Casendes, & higher yet higher I ought not to fun away letter space in speaking to you. Yet I am weary & impractical & fit for nothing serious untill I am tuned & loved by a few weeks of calm Farewell I will see you & we will plan work & case & days of holy mtns rest Remember me to Ned & all the boys & to the Dr who ought to come hither with you

Ever thine John Muir
