Pelosi, Nancy: Gay rights
Abstract
Nancy Pelosi: I wasn’t an expert on how the campaign was constructed. Suffice to say, by all of its momentum it was grassroots. Much more open about minority participation, gay and lesbian participation. George Moscone’s campaign was legitimate in terms of opening it up to the public. We would be invited to these debates between Barbagelata and Moscone, and it was shocking to see how negative, now I know politics, some of the people on the other side were in their comments about George Moscone. And I believe much of it was because George Moscone was a strong supporter of Gay rights, and that was early on for San Francisco.
